Minutes Of February 2009
Attending: Chris Villarreal, Ninfa Villarreal, Bob James, George Tintera, Charlene Tintera, Bill Wheeler, Augie Rivera, Annisa Hernandez, Josh Garza.
Location: The Rivera's house.
The meeting was called to order by President Rivera at 2 PM.
The minutes from the previous meeting were unanimously approved.
Mike Wallett (the treasurer) was not present, so the Treasurer's report was postponed. Chris Villarreal had found a more recent UBS statement than had previously been presented showing a higher balance than we had previously known.
Tournaments
The Royal tournament had approximately 120 participants. There was a late start due to not having enough tables, but the tournament ended on time. Comments were made about how the tournament hall in the Harvin Center was nice, with the carpet being a plus. Some discussion about handling money and locations for tournaments ensued with no particular conclusion.
Augie Rivera reported on the Diocese of Corpus Christi tournament held Jan. 31. He had served as a TD there. It was not sanction, held in 4 rounds and had 130 players.
Bob James reported that the Region XIV tournament held in Laredo on Feb 14 had about 65-70 players, and it was lightly attended by Coastal Bend players. Those that did attend, performed well. Mr. James was there to promote next year's tournament. The date for that tournament is to be announced.
Saint Patrick's is prepping for the March 7 Shamrock Classic. Chris Villarreal will be the chief TD. Annisa Hernandez reported that there will be some crews cleaning up the playground, but there will be plenty of space clearly marked for skittles, both outside and in the Youth Center. She asked that others help promote her tournament. She will seeking score keepers, and the OCBCF is still rounding out its crew of TD's
The upcoming tournament schedule already includes, March Madness (March 14), State Tournament (March 20 - 27), Secondary Championships (April 11), and the Grades Championship (April 25).
Two new tournaments will be added to the schedule in May
- May 2, Christ The King School will host a tournament.
- May 9, Oak Park will host a tournament.
Old Business
- Bob James reported that he had purchased a flash drive for backing up data on the OCBCF laptop. It is in a pocket in the case for the laptop.
- Bob James reported that he is in contact with someone who will offer an accredited CPR/First Aid course for cost for the OCBCF. We just need to give him a date.
- Ninfa Villarreal provided the DPS Criminal History Data form. The Executive Committee will discuss the form and policy at a meeting before the next OCBCF general meeting.
- Ninfa Villarreal reported that Polo shirts are generally available for $30 or so. Christ The King and St. Patrick's said their shirts, with logo cost less than $20.
- There was a motion, unanimously approved, that Bob James be authorized to order 200 boards, appropriately decorated and labeled.
New Business
- Mr. Wheeler made a motion that the OCBCF seek scholarships for championship tournaments. The motion was tabled to allow for complete research.
- The motion that "The OCBCF change its fee for supporting a tournament to $2.50 per player, and not bill for ratings fee" was unanimously approved.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm.
The next meeting will take place March 29 at 2 PM at the Rivera's house.
