OCBCF
Minutes Of December 2008

In attendance: Augie Rivera, George Tintera, Ken Muir, Mike Wallett, and Bill Wheeler.

Location: The Rivera's house.

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by Augie Rivera, President.

The minutes of the meeting of October 2008 a recorded correction were passed by motion, seconded and unanimously accepted.

Treasurer's report and financial update by Mike Wallett: The Treasurer reported a balance of $17,150.99 that does not reflect income from the Collegiate, Wynne Seale, Chula Vista and Share Your Christimas tournaments. The recent expenses include purchase of a new printer and ink cartridges (at about $160). There was discussion about a slightly negative trend in the balance.

Old business:

a. The chess has been good and directing has been largely without incident. Three of the four tournaments this fall have started late due to late registration and other snafu's. There have been a several cases of parents reporting byes and other information to coaches who haven't reported this to the TD processing entries. As a recommended course of action, each player should have a completed registration form, each player or a representative must check in by 9 AM at a registration table that is staffed by at least one person per section to review registration information for each player. The computer operator should have no other responsibilities during registration so that he/she can process corrections and start the tournament on time.

b. Augie Rivera has plans to meet with local school district personnnel in the spring. Bill Wheeler has volunteered to go online and collect information on promoting chess in schools.

Upcoming tournaments

a. Primary/Elementary Championships, January, 24. A motion to provide up to $650 for purchase of trophies for the championships was made, seconded and approved by acclamation. The flier for that tournament will be revised to reflect new pricing of USCF memberships.

b. Fliers for the Shamrock Classic and Royal tournaments are pending. Dates for the April tournaments were noted to be incorrect and will be changed (from 17th and 24th to 18th and 25th).

New business:

a. The OCBCF will develop a current roster of TD's with their level of certification and will post this on the website. George Tintera has a draft roster and will confirm it with the officers before posting.

b. With a change in the membership categories and pricing, the OCBCF will create a separate form for new and renewed memberships for players to submit in addition to a regular registration form a tournament.

The next meeting will take place on SATURDAY, January 17 in conjunction with some TD training.

I hereby declare that this is a true and correct rendition of my notes of the meeting held on December 14, 2008.

          George Tintera, OCBCF Secretary
